Showgirls Part I: Ostrich Studies

Next up in my series of animal paintings: Ostrich Showgirls.
The hardest part about designing them was to strike the right balance between bird and human. I allowed myself great anatomical freedom, but at the same time I did not want to lose their typical ostrich features.

One thing I decided to change about them from the get go, were their legs. Ostrich legs are not sexy, nor very poseable so they had to be "humanized". This meant changing their bone structure entirely.
Arms and hands were also necessary, as well as some cleavage.
You can see how they evolved from being way too human-like in the first couple of sketches, to a more appealing bird-like character in the end.

Still a work in progress though, some type of headdress is needed and I haven't even begun to think about colors yet...
